If you're anything like me, you've been patiently waiting for what seems like an eternity for the Battlefield Bad Company 2 SPECACT pack to release on PS3. You're also probably sitting on small nation's worth of Dr. Pepper caps with promotional codes to use for said BFBC2 pack. Finally, our time has come and the pack has been released. We've only had to wait an extra couple of weeks then our 360 brethren, another tradition most PS3 players have gotten used to, but at least we'll all be able to revel in our sweet juicy justice of (almost free) DLC...at least, one would think.
We've all been hoodwinked, bamboozled, shafted and misinformed. If you'd like this new DLC you're going to have to pay $5.50 for the bundle or $2 for each individual pack, a price that is miniscule when compared to the $15 gouging that Activision has been throwing on people for MW2 maps. The Dr. Pepper promotional codes are no longer an acceptable to use for owners of a PS3 copy of BFBC2. For months, I've had stacks of these caps sitting on my desk at work, waiting and waiting to finally redeem the codes I'd acquired. It seems the terms of the promotion were changed, mid-game, to only apply to those players who own an Xbox 360. There's been no clear mention on the Battlefield Blog as to why this change in stance took place. For months, we've put up with delays with the reassurance that our codes would still be good when the PS3 content was ultimately released. Sadly turned out to be untrue. It may seem inconsequential to many of you, but this isn't a war on the pricing of DLC, it's a matter of principle. Why continue to promise these codes will be valid only to rip the rug out from underneath our feet?
Having never played the Battlfield series before, I took a chance on BFBC2 and thorougly enjoyed it. I proclaimed its greatness to anybody who would listen. No longer can I support this franchise or its developer. I know I'll take a hit without a VIP code, but I'm selling my copy to a local game store. For now, I'll be going back to the disorganized frat party that is MW2. At least when I wake up groggy, disoriented and sore from their booze, they have the courtesy to tell me I fell down a flight of stairs.
I'm sorry to hear about the colonoscopy you and other BFBC2 PS3'ers had to endure. I'd been thinking about getting a PS3 to nestle in along side the pc and 360... but not anymore. I don't want to have to deal with crap like that. Sorry to hear about it but thanks for reminding me why I'm sticking to PC.
