Update: Grunge Gamer is going to QuakeCon! Thanks to the kindness of the people at Rogers & Cowen, I am allowed to go as press and cover QuakeCon on the website. This is a big deal for Grunge, especially considering the age of the site! I will try to post something every night that I am there to keep you guys up to date.Next month one of the most highly anticipated gaming conventions in the world will be held at the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine, Texas. QuakeCon 2009 is scheduled for August 13-16th and gamers from all corners of the globe plan to attend, including myself. According to the website, this year, the convention is sponsored by id Software and myinternetservices.com. The Gaylord will be filled with computers and all things related. QuakeCon features a B.Y.O.C. filled with thousands of computers all networked together for fragging and fun. There is also a room filled with booths from many gaming companies that wish to showcase their latest products and give us a sneak peek at what is to come, Last year, the folks behind Ventrilo supplied one lucky gamer with the keys to a special edition Chevrolet Corvette. Ventrilo delivers again, holding the title for a 2010 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500. A drawing will be held at the end of the event to see who will be leaving the convention with a sweet ride. You can find more info at the official website here.
This will be my fourth time to attend the event, though my first time as unofficial press. Hopefully Grunge Gamer will be able to attend as actual press sometime, but until then, I'll have to settle with thinking that I am attending as such (basically, I'm delusional). Pictures from my visit will be uploaded afterwards, if I remember to stop enjoying myself to take them. If you happen to be in the area, stop by; QuakeCon is well worth your time. Even if you don't plan on being in the area, you have twenty days to move around your schedule. It's more than enough time to take off work and tell your boss "Piss off, QuakeCon is more important."
